AAAE recently announced the formation of the "Aviation Ground Service Association." AAAE billed its action as a response to "the growing need, expressed both by airports and airlines, for greater efficiencies and enhanced networking regarding airline ground handling activities (both above and below wing) at airports around the country."

According to the association's own Web site, AAAE is the largest professional organization for airport executives in the world, representing thousands of airport management personnel at public use airports nationwide. AAAE’s stated primary goal is to assist airport executives in fulfilling their responsibilities to the airports and communities they serve.

The subject of "Leaving Aeronautical Services To Aeronautical Businesses" is the key agenda item for the July 31st - August 1st meeting of the NATA Airline Services Council (NATA ASC) in Washington, DC. The AAAE announcement gives further indication of the intended reach on the part of airports into the airline services industry.
