United Airlines Starts Nonstop Service from OKC to LAX

Sept. 11, 2006
Flights are expected to depart from Will Rogers seven days a week at 4:17 p.m.

The first flight of United Airlines' new nonstop flight route to Los Angeles will leave Will Rogers World Airport today, officials said. The airline will operate out of Oklahoma City through its subsidiary brand, United Express.

Flights are expected to depart from Will Rogers seven days a week at 4:17 p.m. with arrival at Los Angeles International at 5:14 p.m. Flights from California will take off at 10:44 a.m. and arrive in this state at 3:35 p.m.

Last year the airline announced the introduction of a new "Explus" product, an upgrade of its United Express service, which provides first-class seats and meals on the 70-seat Embraer 170 and 66-seat Bombardier CRJ-700 aircraft. WillRogers officials have said the new Explus flights will be configured with 66 seats with the amenities of United First service and extra legroom of Economy Plus.

Airport officials plan to hold a ceremony today before the inaugural flight. Those expected to speak at the event include Director of Airports Mark Kranenburg, Greater Oklahoma City Chamber president Roy Williams and United Airlines District sales manager Joe Bauml. Los Angeles is the third destination that United Airlines has opened in Oklahoma City since the beginning of the year, following nonstop flights to New Orleans in February and to San Antonio in March. Both routes were cancelled at the first of August, according to airport spokeswoman Karen Carney. "It's been one of our most requested routes, so we're really glad that United recognizes that Los Angeles is an important destination for Oklahoma City," Carney said. "And it increases the options available to our travelers."
