Hamilton Sundstrand Gets Lufthansa Order

Lufthansa has selected Hamilton Sundstrand to build auxiliary power units for the company's new fleet of 20 Airbus jetliners. Hamilton Sundstrand will deliver the APS 3200 APUs later this year.

Aerospace systems designer Hamilton Sundstrand, a subsidiary of United Technologies Corp., said Wednesday it has been selected to provide auxiliary power units for Lufthansa's fleet of 30 new Airbus aircraft.

Financial details were not disclosed.

Hamilton Sundstrand said deliveries of the APS 3200 APUs will begin later this year. Auxiliary power units provide power to aircraft while they are on the ground and backup power while in flight.

The company has also extended several existing maintenance support agreements with Lufthansa Technik until 2016.

With the future deliveries, Lufthansa, Europe's largest airline, will operate four different models of Hamilton Sundstrand APUs.

Hamilton Sundstrand Power Systems is based in San Diego, Calif.
