BUDAPEST, Hungary (AP) -- A construction crew building a parking lot at Budapest's Ferihegy Airport on Monday found a World War II bomb at the site, security officials said.

Police cleared an area 800 meters (yards) in circumference around the bomb's location, but flight safety and the movement of passengers at the airport were not affected, said Lt. Col. Sandor Katanics of the airport's security service.

Explosives experts were able to safely remove the detonator of the 50-kilogram (110-pound) German bomb. The bomb was taken to a sand pit and detonated 3 meters (10 feet) below ground, Katanics said.
