Midwest Airlines has reached a lease agreement with Kansas City that will allow the carrier to open a kitchen operation this fall.

The kitchen facility will be at 241 Paris St., near Kansas City International Airport, and will employ about 35 persons, said Carol Skornicka, a Midwest spokeswoman at the airlines Milwaukee headquarters.

The lease, expected to receive City Council approval next week, calls for Midwest to pay nearly $53,000 annually to occupy the building.

Midwest announced earlier this year that it planned to start a food operation in Kansas City as part of a redesign of its in-flight dining program. Contracting with a Milwaukee restaurant, the airline will offer menu items such as $5 breakfast snacks and dinners for up to $10.

The kitchen will operate daily and make regular deliveries to Midwest flights.

Midwest has 21 departures daily from Kansas City.

Mark VanLoh, the citys aviation director, said Midwest had gradually expanded its presence in Kansas City in recent years, second only to its home base in Milwaukee.
