In the next few months, the TSA plans to reduce the number of screeners to 266 through attrition.

The Transportation Security Administration plans to eliminate the jobs of 54 screeners in Charlotte, or 17 percent of its local work force, in an annual personnel reshuffling, the agency told the Observer on Monday.

In the next few months, the TSA plans to reduce the number of screeners to 266 through attrition, spokesman Christopher White said.

The agency plans to employ more part-time screeners. Some airports gain workers and others lose them in annual adjustments. Asked if passengers would endure more delays in Charlotte, White said: "We are confident that we can continue to provide great security and customer service."
