Continental Airlines to Increase Daily Flights Between Puerto Rico and New Jersey

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) -- Continental Airlines will offer a daily round-trip flight between Newark, New Jersey, and the southern Puerto Rican city of Ponce beginning in November, the airline said Monday.

The flight will leave Mercedita airport in Ponce in the morning for Newark Liberty international airport and return before dawn, the airline said in a statement.

The Houston, Texas-based carrier already offers several daily flights between Puerto Rico and Newark, four from San Juan and one from the western town of Aguadilla.

More than 1 million people of Puerto Rican descent live in the Newark-New York area.

Continental flies to 18 Caribbean destinations from Houston and Newark-New York. Four commuter carriers fly for Continental Airlines to seven additional Caribbean destinations.
