A small number of Northwest Airlines flight attendants are being investigated by the FBI, the airline confirmed Wednesday. The nature of the investigation was not disclosed.

In a statement, Eagan, Minn.-based Northwest said it is cooperating with an FBI inquiry of a small number of flight attendants on a single flight. The investigation does not involve any flight safety issues, the airline said.

"There have been some concerns raised on both sides, which are being investigated," Peter Fiske, a spokesman with the flight attendants union wrote in an e-mail. "We are confident our flight attendants have performed according to company procedure. "

Fiske declined to elaborate. Phone messages left with the FBI were not immediately returned Wednesday.

"The airline believes that these alleged actions do not represent the behavior of the vast majority of our Professional Flight Attendants Association-represented employees," the airline said.
