HOUSTON (AP) -- Continental Airlines said Thursday it will donate 1,000 tickets for victims of Hurricane Katrina in their efforts to relocate across the country.

The tickets will be given to various relief agencies, which will then arrange travel for qualifying individuals.

''This is just one small way that we can help to meet the immediate needs of the many evacuees in desperate need of help,'' said Continental's chairman and chief executive Larry Kellner.

The ticket donation is in addition to Continental's gift of 1 million frequent flier miles to both the American Red Cross and AmeriCares.

Houston-based Continental is also waiving advance purchase requirements of any fare, including discount ones, for residents of Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi. The offer is for travel originating through Monday.
