Voted for by airline operators globally, Birmingham was awarded the accolade in the '5 to 10 million passengers' category.
RDATE:27092005
For the second year running, Birmingham International Airport (BIA) has won a prestigious 'OAG Airport Marketing Award' for its effective marketing activity. Voted for by airline operators globally, Birmingham was awarded the accolade in the '5 to 10 million passengers' category, beating the other shortlisted contenders Cologne/Bonn, Geneva, Nice and Stuttgart Airports. The award was presented to BIA's marketing team at the 'Routes Gala Dinner' in Copenhagen last night (Monday).
Established in 1997, the OAG Airport Marketing Awards are designed to recognise airports that take a fresh approach to marketing themselves and their industry partners, and whose overall activities have left a positive impression in the market place.
Peter Vella, BIA's Business Development Director, said, "Birmingham International Airport sits in one of the most competitive locations in Europe and has to be extremely pro-active with its marketing activities. We have a fantastic team and having been recognised by our airlines from around the globe as the best airport in the world for the way we deliver these activities is testament to their commitment and fresh thinking. Nevertheless, we will continue to examine new and improved ways of working to ensure that we deliver the very best services for our partners and passengers."
The sponsor of the awards, OAG, is the world's leading provider of business travel information. Its Managing Director Europe, Middle East & Africa, Duncan Alexander, said, "I'm absolutely delighted for Birmingham Airport's marketing team for being recognised by its airlines and achieving this award. It is testimony to the hard work of Peter and his team. Well done!"
The 'Airport Marketing Awards' have become a well established feature of the Gala Dinner held at the annual Routes conference - The World Route Development Forum. Each year more than 250 different airlines and 450 airports gather at a single location to meet, market their businesses and take part in the voting process. Over 20,000 meetings will have taken place by the end of this year's conference, which is taking place in Copenhagen between 25th and 27th September.
Birmingham International Airport received a prestigious trophy sponsored by Waterford Crystal.
