WASHINGTON, Oct. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- The USO and Denver International Airport are announcing that construction has begun on a new USO center to meet the increasing travel needs of members of the active duty military, National Guard and Reserves in the region. The center, set to open in November, will serve nearly 23,000 military members in the Rocky Mountain region. Initially, the Rocky Mountain USO at Denver International Airport will be the only USO in the state of Colorado.

"This was the 'number one' customer service issue based on comments we received from our passengers," said Vicki Braunagel, co-manager of aviation. "We are pleased to partner with the USO to offer our travelers this new amenity and to support our men and women in uniform," she added.

USO president and CEO Edward A. Powell said, "The USO is excited about opening a USO center in an area that clearly has a need for our programs and services. We are proud to team with Denver International Airport and appreciate their support as we continue to extend the bridge between the American people and our men and women in uniform."

The airport provided $225,000 to refurbish the space, and the USO will provide financial support, staffing and furnishings. The USO center will be located in office space north of the walkway to concourse A. It will offer an Internet café with computer stations, a reading area and snack bar, a large screen TV, a gaming area, a children's section and a quiet room. Once established, the USO will initiate programs that will serve the military population at various installations in the region. The center will be the USO's 123rd and its 11th at a major airport.
