Airport and business organizations on Dec. 2 will outline to minority- and women-owned firms contracting opportunities at the new Indianapolis International Airport terminal.

The networking meeting at the Madame Walker Theatre comes amid plans by the Indianapolis Airport Authority to ink more than $ 200 million in terminal construction contracts by early 2006. That amounts to the bulk of the contracts to build and equip the 1.2-million-square-foot terminal that's scheduled to open in 2008.

The total cost of the terminal is estimated at $ 1 billion, with most of the design, site preparation and road construction contracts already awarded.

According to Airport Authority records, 21 percent of the $ 92.5 million in professional services contracts awarded so far have gone to minority-owned firms, 6.2 percent to women-owned firms.

Minority-owned firms have landed about 7.8 percent of the $ 45.9 million in construction contracts and women-owned firms just 3.8 percent, according to Authority records.

Hosting the meeting are Indianapolis companies Hunt-Smoot Midfield Builders, Turner Aviation-Trotter Construction, Nubian Transport Co. and Indianapolis Business Diversity Council.
