Since October 2004, Hofsass has served as TSA's Senior Advisor for Security Operations at TSA Headquarters in Arlington, Virginia.

WASHINGTON, Jan. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) today announced that Douglas Hofsass has been named Federal Security Director (FSD) at LaGuardia Airport (LGA) in Flushing, New York. As FSD, Hofsass will also oversee security and TSA operations at Westchester County Airport (HPN), White Plains, New York; Long Island MacArthur Airport (ISP), Ronkonkoma, New York; and the federalized heliports in New York City.

Since October 2004, Hofsass has served as TSA's Senior Advisor for Security Operations at TSA Headquarters in Arlington, Virginia. In this role, he was responsible for advising TSA's Assistant Administrator on nationwide field operations, headquarters initiatives and program strategies. Hofsass also served as the principal field liaison at TSA Headquarters for the agency's Area Directors and Federal Security Directors.

"Doug's breadth of knowledge and experience in aviation security, his leadership style and unwavering commitment to the safety of the traveling public will be an invaluable asset in his new position at LaGuardia Airport," said Margaret Rhodes, TSA's Eastern Area Director. "TSA's TSO's and staff at LaGuardia will be fortunate to have a manager so dedicated to ensuring a positive, productive and security-focused work environment."

Hofsass, who joined the agency in 2002, previously served as Senior Operations Officer for the agency's North Central Area where he supported the region's federal security directors on screening procedures, equipment acquisition and field training requirements. Before coming to TSA headquarters in 2004, Hofsass was a member of the Federal Security Director's management team at Washington Dulles International Airport as the Deputy for Screening Operations where he helped lead the 800 person TSA operation. Hofsass was also part of the Washington Metro TSA "roll-out team" in 2002 and was responsible for implementation of the electronic baggage screening program at Washington Dulles.

Before joining TSA, Hofsass worked for United Airlines where he specialized in airport operations and aviation security while stationed in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Orlando, Florida, and Washington, D.C. Just prior to joining TSA, Hofsass was the Security Operations Manager for United Airlines at Washington Dulles International Airport where he was responsible for overseeing all security operations at the hub, including contract screening, asset protection and regulatory compliance. Additionally, he was Chair of the Air Carrier Security Subcommittee for the Washington Dulles Airline Management Council.

Just prior to his role as Security Operations Manager, Hofsass was the Manager of Operations Planning for United Airlines at Washington Dulles where he led operations performance analysis, station goal setting and safety performance.

Hofsass replaces Tom Wilkins, who has served as the FSD at LaGuardia Airport since February 2003. Wilkins recently accepted the position of Director of Compliance for TSA at the agency's Headquarters in Arlington, Virginia where he will oversee domestic and international aviation inspections, as well as surface transportation inspections.
