Dade Commissioners Approve Miami Airport Restaurant Contracts
Two days after deferring the vote so the firms could meet with a local union, Miami-Dade commissioners approved two contracts for new restaurants.
Miami-Dade commissioners approved two Miami International Airport restaurant contracts with Areas USA and Concessions Miami on Thursday, two days after deferring the vote so the firms could meet with a local union.
UNITE HERE local 355 wanted more favorable terms for future workers to unionize.
''With respect to the major issues, we think we can reach an agreement,'' said Albert Dotson Jr., an attorney for Concessions Miami.
Union membership wasn't covered in the original bid commissioners approved last year.
The contracts are for new restaurants at MIA's North and South terminals as part of a plan to overhaul the airport's retail stores and restaurants.
