January passenger traffic at Tulsa International Airport was at the highest monthly level since 2001, with 227,906 people coming and going through Jan. 31.

There were 109,403 enplanements, 111,265 deplanements and 7,238 non-revenue passengers in January, good for a 5.5-percent increase over January 2005 numbers, the Tulsa Airport Authority said.

Last month's passenger count falls short of the 256,785 total in January 1997, and the record 346,849 passengers recorded in June 2001.

While mail shipments dropped sharply last month compared to a year ago, freight operations increased 2.5 percent, and cargo shipments were up less than 1 percent.

There were 2,859 air carrier operations and 2,588 air taxi operations in January, both up from a year ago, but civilian and military operations were down sharply from January 2005 levels.

There were 22,176 operations at Jones Airport in January, down by less than 1 percent from a year ago.

The airport reported that parking garage revenues were $518,440 in January, up 25.6 percent, due to a rate increase. Activity in the garage was down by less than 1 percent.
