The planned 24-hour strike - to protest management changes - was scheduled to start at 11 p.m. at Athens International Airport and Thessaloniki Airport, in northern Greece.

ATHENS, Greece_An Athens court ruled a planned strike Monday by baggage screeners at Greece's two main airports was illegal, authorities said.

The planned 24-hour strike - to protest management changes - was scheduled to start at 11 p.m. (2100 GMT) at Athens International Airport and Thessaloniki Airport, in northern Greece. Only emergency staff were due to work.

The impact of the court ruling was not immediately clear late Monday, which is a public holiday in Greece.

Greece's civil aviation authority and Athens International Airport had asked the court to declare the strike illegal, an airport spokeswoman said.

The protest - which follows strikes last week - was to press demands for job guarantees after management passed to a different private company.
