His new company, which has not yet been named but will be based in the Metroplex, will advise airports and other large facility owners such as universities on how to put together multimillion-dollar construction projects.

The man who led Dallas/Fort Worth Airport through its largest expansion project over the past five years is stepping down to start a consulting business.

Clay Paslay, the former executive vice president of airport development at D/FW, oversaw the airport's $2.7 billion capital-development program, which included the new 2 million-square-foot Terminal D, installation of the Skylink automated train and the extension of three runways by more than 2,000 feet. The project officially wrapped up around the middle of last year.

"Having just completed one of the largest capital programs in the state of Texas [at] a world-class airport, it's kind of like, 'Well, what do you do next?'" he said. "It's a good opportunity -- a good time to go find some new mountains to go climb."

His new company, which has not yet been named but will be based in the Metroplex, will advise airports and other large facility owners such as universities on how to put together multimillion-dollar construction projects.

Paslay, 50, started at the airport in 1981 as a project manager.

Jeff Fegan, D/FW's chief executive, said in a statement that Paslay helped transform the airport into "one of the most incredible facilities in the world."

So what's immediately next for someone who has led more than $4 billion in airport expansion projects?

Helping to plan his daughter's wedding over the next few weeks. She's his second and final child to grow up, he said.

"So you might say I've got them off my payroll now," he said.
