Governor Awards $9.5 Million to Fund Repair Projects at 20 Pa. Airports

HARRISBURG , Pa., April 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Pennsylvania Governor Edward G. Rendell today said 20 local airports across the state will be able to improve safety and service - and generate new economic-development opportunities - with Pennsylvania's investment of more than $9.5 million to help pay for critical renovation and repair projects.

"Maintaining and improving our airport system is an investment in safety and a boost to the economic vitality of local economies and the state," Governor Rendell said. "Airports, both large and small, are economic catalysts that provide communities with thousands of jobs and billions of dollars in economic benefits each year."

The airports will use the money to replace runway lighting, acquire land for future airport development, rehabilitate runways, buy snow removal equipment and install navigational aids, among other upgrades. Funding comes from the Federal Aviation Administration and PennDOT's Bureau of Aviation.
