Bechtel Wins $320M San Jose Contract Under New Bidding Rules
The project is the first part of a $1.5 billion plan to overhaul the airport over the next 11 years.
Bechtel, the top design-builder in the nation, said in a statement that the company was "pleased to have been ranked first" in the competition for the airport contract.
Jeff Bennett, project development manager at Hensel Phelps, said he felt the company was "treated very fairly" by the city's design-build bidding process.
"Unfortunately, we didn't win, but we lost to a very formidable competitor," Bennett said.
Bechtel, founded in 1898, has completed more than 22,000 projects in 140 nations around the world, including the Bay Area Rapid Transit system and Hoover Dam. Bechtel has also worked on John F. Kennedy International Airport and Logan International Airport in Boston.
