Is It A Car Or A Plane?

May 30, 2006
The first delivery of the Transition PAV is scheduled for 2009, but a fully operational prototype is expected in 2008.

This may look like a plane, but it's actually a Transition Personal Air Vehicle (PAV) -- a concept from the minds of talented grad students at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Terrafugia, an aviation manufacturing company working with the students, says the Transition will be able to drive at normal highway speeds, fly at speeds approaching the light-sport-aircraft limit, and fit in a standard garage. It will weigh 1,320 pounds and have a 100-hp engine. Gas mileage in the air is around 30 mpg.

The first delivery of the Transition PAV is scheduled for 2009, but a fully operational prototype is expected in 2008. Start saving now; the estimated price is $148,000.
