Federal Security Director Named for Reagan National

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) announced today that Karen Burke has been named Federal Security Director (FSD) at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport. In that role, Burke will manage all TSA operations and initiatives at the airport.
"Karen has extensive experience directing major airport and security operations, and brings both expertise and leadership to this position," said Mike Restovich, TSA Assistant Administrator for Security Operations. "The TSA security mission in the National Capital Region is of paramount importance, and I am pleased to have a seasoned veteran on the front lines at Reagan National."
Karen Burke joined TSA in 2002 as the Director of Aviation Operations, with responsibility for security relating to Civil Aviation and facilities, including federal security screening, Regulatory Programs, related law enforcement coordination and managing crisis response and threats to the transportation system. At TSA, Burke has also served as Director of Stakeholder and Industry Affairs and most recently was on detail at the Terrorist Screening Center.
She began her career in transportation in 1972 at United Airlines, holding several leadership positions over a 30-year career with the airline, including Regional Manager of Sales and Service and General Manager at United's international hub at Dulles International Airport. Burke holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Northwestern University.
Burke replaces Pat Hynes, who departed TSA for a private sector opportunity.
