US Airways Moving to Terminal E at D/FW

The Phoenix-based airline, which merged with America West Airlines in September, will fly both brands of airplanes out of gates E35 to E38.

US Airways Group is moving all of its 15 daily flights from Dallas/Fort Worth Airport to Terminal E from Terminal B starting Wednesday.

The Phoenix-based airline, which merged with America West Airlines in September, will fly both brands of airplanes out of gates E35 to E38.

All of the carrier's flights will gradually take on the US Airways name, the company said in a prepared statement.

D/FW Airport has been juggling its roster of airlines and the number of flights at each of its five terminals. That's partly to smooth out the traffic to help financially struggling concessionaires.

US Airways' departure leaves only Chicago-based United Airlines and American Eagle, the regional-jet subsidiary of Fort Worth-based American Airlines, at Terminal B.

American Airlines operates all of the flights out of A and C, but some flights were moved from one terminal to the other to help prop up concessionaires at A.

Almost all of the American Eagle domestic flights were moved to Terminal B to give that airline room to grow, airport officials have said.

D/FW Airport officials have been trying to move all of its domestic flights that are not operated by American Airlines to Terminal E.

Delta Airlines, which now has only a 2.3 percent market share at D/FW, used to be the airport's second-largest airline, operating all of the flights out of Terminal E.

But the combination of Delta's pull-down of its hub and the merger of US Airways with American West now makes US Airways the second-largest carrier at D/FW with a 2.9 percent market share as of May, the most recent figures available from the airport.

American and its Eagle subsidiary combine for an 84.4 percent market share at D/FW Airport.
