Robert Gray reportedly filed the suit against the TSA after he was refused permission to upgrade his commercial pilot's licence to pilot larger aircraft.

A lawsuit that was brought against United States federal authorities by a commercial pilot was dropped on Monday (7 August).

Robert Gray reportedly filed the suit against the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) after he was refused permission to upgrade his commercial pilot's licence to pilot larger aircraft.

Gray is the holder of a British passport and is a legal permanent resident of the US, but was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland.

According to The Associated Press the TSA alleged in January 2005 that Gray was a "threat to aviation or national security" based on "derogatory information" in his background.

A settlement agreement was reportedly made in a US District Court on Monday. According to court documents federal authorities had stated that Gray "does not pose a threat to aviation or national security".

Gray is currently employed by regional carrier Cape Air.
