A Continental Airlines jet became stuck in mud Monday at El Paso International Airport as it was turning onto the taxiway after landing, airport and airline officials said.

None of the 67 passengers and five crew members on the flight from Houston was hurt and the mired plane did not affect any other flights at the airport, according to airport spokeswoman Liz Bellegrade. A small portion of the taxiway was shut down.

The cause of the accident has not been determined. The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating, Bellegrade said.

Flight 1683 left Houston about 10:05 CDT (1505 GMT) and landed safely in El Paso at 10:50 MDT 1650 GMT), Continental spokeswoman Julie King said.

"As it was taxiing toward the terminal, it steered off the taxiway," King said.

Passengers were shuttled to the terminal by bus. The airplane remained in the mud late Monday afternoon.

El Paso has been hard hit by rains for much of the past month and has received almost 3 inches (7.6 centimeters) of rain since Friday.
