Denver Int'l Exploring Gate Expansion on Concourse C
The expansion would involve extending the east end of the concourse by a couple of hundred yards.
* Concourse B: Building United a $41.5 million regional jet facility, allowing the carrier to consolidate its operations to the concourse and giving it room to grow.
* Concourse C: Considering an expansion that would add up to eight more gates on the east end of the concourse. Would provide enough space for carriers operating at the airport to grow and for new airlines to start service at DIA as well.
By the numbers
48 million travelers are expected to use Denver International Airport this year in the face of rapid growth among DIA's largest airlines and the arrival of Southwest Airlines. The airport was built in the mid-1990s to handle 50 million passengers annually. It's pushing that limit faster than officials projected a few years ago.
