Shuttle America began providing service in September as United Express, one of United Airlines' regional airlines.

A new regional carrier is serving Omaha with an eyecatching jet.

Shuttle America began providing service in September as United Express, one of United Airlines' regional airlines. The subsidiary of Republic Airways, based in Indianapolis, flies Embraer 170 aircraft made in Brazil.

The manufacturer touts the 170 as blending the line between regional and conventional jets, with high-enough ceilings for most passengers to stand up.

The jets serving Omaha seat 75 passengers in rows of two seats each. Shuttle America is flying from Omaha to Chicago and Denver, routes that were served by Go Jet.

The plane's style resembles that of the much-larger 737, said Don Smithey, executive director of the Omaha Airport Authority.

"It's a pretty airplane."
