Some of the major United States-based airlines that announced increased fares last week have rescinded the rises.

The airlines reportedly rescinded the increases in fares, which were explained as being necessary to offset high fuel prices, to remain competitive as other carriers did not match the increases.

According to Reuters, Delta Air Lines, American Airlines, United Airlines, Continental Airlines and Northwest Airlines said on 30 October that they rescinded the increases over the weekend (28-29 October).
