Korean Air Captain Admits to Error When Landing on Taxiway

The investigators from the Aircraft & Railway Accidents Investigation Commission also said they had found no evidence of mistakes by the air traffic controllers at the airport.

The captain of a Korean Air jetliner which mistakenly landed on a taxiway at Akita airport has admitted to pilot error, saying, "I landed on the taxiway as visibility was poor due to the rain," accident investigators said Sunday.

The investigators from the Aircraft & Railway Accidents Investigation Commission also said they had found no evidence of mistakes by the air traffic controllers at the airport, or defects in the airport facility or the airplane.

The Boeing 737 airplane from Incheon landed on the taxiway, which is located about 120 meters south of the runway, Saturday afternoon.

The South Korean captain has already returned home.
