OAKLAND -- An Alaska Airlines flight was grounded in Oakland on Sunday night because of a crack in the airplane's front windshield, a spokeswoman at Oakland International Airport said.

Flight No. 409 took off from Los Angeles International Airport at 4:28 p.m. and was headed to Portland, Ore., when it was diverted to Oakland because of the large crack, the spokeswoman said.

It landed safely and without incident at Oakland at 6 p.m.

There were 120 people on board and no one was injured.

Airport spokeswoman Joanne Holloway said she expected the airplane -- a 737 -- to be airborne and headed for Portland late Sunday. No other details were available late Sunday.
