Construction Set to Begin on New Lisbon Terminal

LISBON, Portugal_Construction of a second terminal at Lisbon airport will start next week, the national airports company said Thursday.

The new terminal 2 will cater mostly for domestic flights, charter and low cost flights.

The expansion will allow the airport to handle 40 flights per hour, an increase from the current 36, and increase the number of passengers at the Lisbon airport, also know as Portela International airport, from 12 million to 16 million, the national airports company said.

The new terminal will cost €380 million (US$495 million) and is expected to be operational by summer 2007.
