Indonesia's Adam Air to Expand International Flights

Feb. 16, 2007

Adam Air, which made headlines last month when one of its aircraft went missing with more than 100 people on board, plans to expand operations, opening two new international routes to Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia this year.

The Boeing 737-400 plane of Adam Air was believed to have plunged into the see off Sulawesi when it was on a flight from East Java's Surabaya to North Sulawesi's Manado on January 1.

Adam Air Commercial Director Gugi Pringwa Saputra said the plan will expand its international flight operations. Adam Air already provides regional flights between Jakarta and Singapore and Penang in Malaysia.

The airline will not change its plan to lease 10 more units of aircraft, Gugi said, adding two of them, Boeing 737-300s, have arrived in Jakarta recently and the rest including six Airbus A320s are to follow this year.

The new routes will be served by Airbus aircraft, he said.

Currently Adam Air operates 22 Boeing 737 series of 200, 300, 400 and 500, and six Airbus planes. The 737-200 series will be no longer be used after their leasing contract expires in 2008, he said.
