A check of the 52-year-old man's baggage revealed 4 million pesos of currency which way above the authorized 10,000 pesos allowed to be brought out of the country.

Philippine police Thursday arrested a man at the Manila international airport for trying to bring 4 million pesos (about 82,000 U.S. dollars) out of the country.

Operatives of the Philippine National Police-Aviation Security Group commander Senior Superintendent Atilano Morada identified the 52-year-old man as Telesporo Isidro, who was arrested at International Airport-Terminal II before he could board a Philippine Airlines plane bound for Singapore.

Quoting initial investigation, Morada said a check of his baggage revealed 4 million pesos of currency which way above the authorized 10,000 pesos allowed to be brought out of the country. The suspect was turned over to the custody of the Bureau of Customs.

Under the regulation, a passenger has to seek a request from the Philippine Central Bank, or Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, if he is to bring amount larger than the authorized, according to Morada.

Isidro told investigators that he was asked by his employer, who is owner a local real estate company, to bring the money to Singapore.
