March 5, 2007

Lion Air said the first of seven units of Boeing 737-900 ER aircraft it plans to buy at a price of US$3.9 billion this year will arrive in April.

Commercial Director of the airline Achmad Hasan said the seven aircraft will be part of 60 units of Boeing 737-900 ER planes it has ordered from the U.S. aircraft maker until 2012.

Next year eight more units are to arrive here to be followed with 12 units each in 2009 and 2010 and the remaining 21 units in 2011 and 2012, Hasan said.

Lion Air will have 76 aircraft in 2012 after returning some of its leased units, he said.

The airline targets to chalk up 10.2 million air passengers this year up 10 per cent from last year.
