Corpus Christi has gained 75 air travel-related jobs through Indiana-based Chautauqua Airlines Inc.

The jobs don't mean new flights at Corpus Christi International Airport. The company, a subsidiary of Republic Airways Holdings, hired 50 pilots and 25 flight attendants during an open house recruitment last month to serve as crew members on Continental Express flights. Those jobs were transferred from Houston.

Warren Wilkinson, a spokesman for the company, would not say what the pay range for pilots and flight attendants would be. According to 2004 figures from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, median annual earnings of flight attendants were $43,440. Earnings of aircraft pilots and flight engineers vary greatly depending whether they work for a commuter airline or a private company.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, median annual earnings of pilots for private companies were $53,870 in May 2004. At that time, labor statistics show median annual earnings of $129,250 for commuter airline pilots, co-pilots and flight engineers.

All of Chautauqua Airlines' flights are operated under its major airline partner brands. The airline does business as AmericanConnection, Continental Express, Delta Connection, United Express and US Airways Express. Chautauqua employs about 3,700 workers and operates 175 regional jet aircraft.

In Corpus Christi, Chautauqua Airlines is partnered with Continental Express, Wilkinson said.

The airlines partnered with Chautauqua offer scheduled passenger service on about 1,000 flights daily to 90 cities in 35 states, Canada, Mexico and the U.S. Virgin Islands through airline services agreements with five major U.S. airlines.

In January Chautauqua started to operate the first of 24 50-passenger Bombardier CRJ-200 aircraft as a Continental Express carrier.
