Gatwick Refuellers Threaten Strike Action

"Our members at Gatwick Refuelling Services are clear that they want to have their union formally recognised for the purposes of negotiations on the whole range of issues affecting them in the workplace."

Aircraft refuellers at Gatwick threatened strike on Monday over union recognition.

Civil aviation union T&G, which represents all the 15 refuellers at Gatwick Refuelling Services Ltd (GRS), confirmed that the company had been informed of the intention to ballot for strike action after the failure to agree on a voluntary agreement.

T&G regional industrial organiser Kevin Hall said: "Our members at Gatwick Refuelling Services are clear that they want to have their union formally recognised for the purposes of negotiations on the whole range of issues affecting them in the workplace.

"Such is their determination they are prepared to vote on strike action to pursue their claim."

Mr Hall added that thousands of companies across Britain and scores within the aviation sector have signed up to voluntary trade union recognition agreements.

"If all of this company's employees want the T&G recognised, why not?" he asked.
