Fort Lauderdale, FL – “AMT day is an important day at Banyan. Not only is it the day that Banyan pays tribute to Charles E. Taylor, the mechanic who built Orville and Wilbur Wright’s engine, but it is also the day that Banyan recognizes and honors the contributions and achievements of our own avionics and maintenance technicians,” stated Don Campion, president of Banyan during the company’s second annual AMT Day celebration.
Dave Valenta, Banyan’s director of maintenance, organized the celebration; including a catered lunch and speakers. While the technicians enjoyed lunch, Dale Meiler, Banyan’s lead maintenance inspector and recent recipient of the ATP/NATA 2006 General Aviation Service Technician Award spoke, “We have such an important job as technicians because the pilots don’t have the opportunity to pull over and wait for the tow truck. People who fly in their aircraft have to have confidence that the maintenance performed is rock solid and that is where we come in. It’s my privilege to work at Banyan with such a dedicated group of technicians.”
Banyan’s celebration included recognizing the technicians who will receive FAA AMT awards. Lou Homsher, quality assurance manager, announced the FAA AMT training awards for the maintenance department and Steve Ouellette, avionics chief inspector, announced the awards for the avionics department. A total of 38 award winners were announced. In addition to the individual awards, Banyan will also receive two FAA Diamond Excellence Awards for having 100% training participation in both the avionics and maintenance departments.
