Authority buys land to expand airport

The Mobile Airport Authority paid more than $1 million for 6.1 acres on Airport Boulevard, west of the main entrance to Mobile Regional Airport, for future expansion, according to Roberts Brothers Commercial & Property Management and Roberts Brothers Inc.

Local investors bought Victoria Place, a 16,000-square-foot retail center at 951 Schillinger Road near Zeigler Boulevard, for $1.22 million, according to court records and Tommy Gleason of Gleason & Associates.

A local investor paid $515,000 for a new 10,000-square-foot office and warehouse on Cash Court off U.S. 98 in Foley, according to Tim Herrington of Saad & Vallas Realty Group.

About 25 acres owned by the Eastern Shore Centre on Alabama 181 in Spanish Fort is under contract to be purchased by developers who plant to build apartments, starting with 200 units, according to David Foshee of Foshee Realty. The property is behind Belk Department Store at the northeast side of the center, Foshee said.

Investors paid $420,000 for 9.3 acres two miles north of Alabama 59 and U.S. 31 in Stapleton, according to Starke Irvine of Irvine Properties in Daphne, who represented the seller. The land includes three houses and storage buildings, Irvine said. Doug Abercrombie of ERA Class.com in Lillian worked for the buyers.

Timbes & Yeager has leased 1,400 square feet at 605 Bel Air Blvd. in The Oaks office building, according to Gleason & Associates. The advertising and public relations firm relocated from downtown Mobile.

Safe Mini Storage at 8781 Airport Blvd. was purchased for $5.97 million by Sovran Acquisitions Limited, based in New York, which operates its 300 storage centers as Uncle Bob's Self Storage, according to court records and agents.

About 9,419 acres of land and timber in north central Baldwin County near Stockton, owned by the Ben May Trust, will be sold in a two-step bid process, according to Regions Bank Natural Resources Department. The first sealed bid will be due July 9 at 11 a.m., and bidders will then be notified if they are eligible to bid in the final round on July 31 at 11 a.m. For more information, call Buddy Bates at 690-1157.

TORP Terminal has leased 1,291 square feet in the AmSouth Bank building at 107 St. Francis St., according to Joe Bemo, chief executive officer of TORP, a subsidiary of TORP Technology in Houston. The company is seeking a permit to build a liquefied natural gas facility in the Gulf of Mexico 63 miles south of Mobile.

Local investors purchased 2 acres at 923 Whistler St. in Prichard for $100,000, according to Chad Slaton of Cummings & Associates.

The Hertz Corp. reservation center on U.S. 43 in Saraland has 30,000 square feet available to lease, according to Paula Rivera of Hertz. The 90,000-square-foot center employs 400, and last week started an employee work-from-home program, she said. The Mobile Area Chamber of Commerce is interested in the Hertz center for office space for ThyssenKrupp AG, she said. The chamber has told Realtors that it wants free office space for the steelmaker.

Prissy Hawkins Real Estate has opened at 7251 Grelot Road. Hawkins previously worked at America South Realty on Dauphin Island.

Quizno's at Midtown has opened in Shoppes of Midtown at Government and Catherine streets, according to George Waldron, area director for Quizno's Classic Subs.
