FAA Probes Plane's Emergency Landing

Officials on Saturday were investigating the emergency landing of a small plane Friday night in a field in far western Kendall County.

Sometime after 9 p.m., the pilot of a Cessna 172 reported that he was having fuel problems and made an emergency landing in the open area south of Yorkville, said Tony Molinaro, spokesman for the Federal Aviation Administration's Great Lakes Region.

The pilot suffered minor injuries on his arm but walked away from the plane, which was damaged, Molinaro said. The pilot, who was the sole occupant, was taken to an area hospital for treatment.

FAA investigators were at the scene Saturday, and Molinaro said it could be a couple of weeks before the investigation is completed. Molinaro did not know the name of the pilot or where the flight originated. He said the pilot was heading toward Aurora Municipal Airport in Sugar Grove.

The plane is registered to a company in Louisiana, but Molinaro said it was unlikely that the man had flown that far, given the size of the aircraft.
