Low-cost airlines carried nearly half of all the 3.4 million air transport passengers in the first quarter of the year, reaching a market share amounting to 48 percent, shows data published by the Civil Aviation Office (ULC) on Wednesday. The 1.1 million passengers flown by the state-owned airline PLL LOT (33 percent of the market), let it stay in first place on the market, but the pressure from LCC's is being felt more and more strongly each quarter. The ULC report put Ryanair behind PLL LOT with a 15-percent market share, followed by WizzAir with 14 percent. Among foreign carriers, WizzAir currently is offering the widest range of regular flights (53 connections). Ryanair came second with 32, followed by SkyEurope (21) and Norwegian Air Shuttle (15 connections). Warsaw is still Poland's most popular airport with foreign air carriers. Twenty-nine of them are flying to and from Poland's capital city.
