AirTran, Delta to add flights to Stewart airport

July 23, 2007

NEWBURGH - Two carriers serving Stewart International Airport here announced plans for additional flights a week after American Eagle confirmed it plans to end service by Sept. 5.

Airport officials said AirTran Airways will begin flying nonstop to West Palm Beach with one daily round-trip, while Delta will add a fourth daily flight to its hub at Atlanta. The AirTran flights will begin Nov. 7. AirTran already offers nonstop service from Stewart to Atlanta, Orlando and Tampa. A start date for the additional Delta flight wasn't immediately available.

American Eagle said last week it was wasn't achieving an "acceptable return" at Stewart and would move its aircraft to other markets. American was the first to begin commercial air service at Stewart, starting flights in 1990.
