Worker killed in RDU collision; American Eagle withholding ID until kin notified

Aug. 5, 2007

An American Eagle employee at Raleigh-Durham International Airport was killed in a collision between an American Eagle aircraft and a "tug," the tractor that pulls baggage carts, on a baggage ramp outside Terminal C on Tuesday night.

American Eagle was withholding the identification of the victim pending notification of next of kin.

American Eagle spokesman John Hotard in Fort Worth, Texas, said Tuesday that he was unsure where the victim lived, but did confirm his death.

RDU spokeswoman Colleen Fischvogt said she was only able to confirm that there was an accident involving an American Eagle employee at Terminal C.

She did say RDU emergency personnel were summoned to Terminal C at about 8:30 Tuesday night to aid an accident victim.

Fischvogt said no passengers were aboard the aircraft involved at the time of the accident and no one else had been endangered.

She also said the aircraft involved had already been scheduled to stay at the airport overnight and service shouldn't be affected.

Hotard said the dead employee was a fleet service clerk, a ramp worker who handles the loading and unloading of baggage.

American Eagle is a subsidiary of AMR Corp. and a regional affiliate of American Airlines, another AMR subsidiary.
