American Airlines has entered into a memorandum of intent with AirCell LLC to be the first US airline to test the capability of providing passengers with AirCell's high-speed broadband connectivity.

The airline said that the test will be conducted in 2008 on American's Boeing 767-200 aircraft, which primarily fly transcontinental routes. The solution will reportedly provide passengers with a high-speed Internet connection, VPN access and e-mail capabilities through Wi-Fi-enabled laptops and PDA devices.

The technology will be available in all classes on the B767-200 aircraft for a fee, and will use three antennas installed on the outside of the aircraft.
