The Town Council will decide Tuesday night on setting a public hearing to rename the Pittsfield Municipal Airport after the late Ron Curtis.
Curtis was the fixed-base operator for 10 years at the airport until, while on a training flight in 2003, he and another pilot were killed when their plane stalled and crashed into a runway.
Since his death, Curtis' son, Caleb Curtis, has been the fixed-base operator.
Town Manager Kathryn Ruth has informed the council that the request came from many pilots who use the facility.
Curtis Air was founded in 1993 and provides FBO services for the town, as well as private services, such as plane repair and rebuilding, storage and service.
Ron Curtis was highly respected throughout the state as both a businessman and instructor. Customers and pilots rallied to the Curtis family's side in the months following the crash, allowing Caleb Curtis to make the transition from weekend and summer work at the airport to taking the reins.
The public hearing, if approved, would be set for Aug. 21.
Also on the council's agenda are:
. Setting another public hearing to allow Mid State Gas Co. to purchase town-owned land off Stinson Street.
. Awarding recognition certificates to Fairway Estates, a new condominium project, and George Bell and Eric Witham of Cianbro Corp. for work at Stein Park.
. Approval of the requests for proposals for sewer line work on Summer Street and Summer Court.
. Updates on several airport grants, the Stein Park renovation project, the swimming pool project and wellhead protection.
The meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. in the council chambers of the municipal building on Somerset Avenue.
