The 24/7 MedLink Global Response Services from MedAire Inc (ASX:MDE), a provider of remote medical education, expertise and equipment, is to be added to the entire fleet of Spirit Airlines, a US-based airline.

MedAire said MedLink provides flight attendants and pilots with a one-call solution, during in-flight medical situations, to board-certified physicians working in a level one trauma centre in Phoenix, Arizona. It claimed the immediate access to a physician ensures crew members can respond properly to in-flight medical situations.

According to MedAire, 24/7 MedLink access will be available to crew members around the world on the 36 aircraft Spirit Airlines fleet, under the terms of the three year agreement, using the aircraft's existing communications system. The physicians have substantial aviation-specific medicine experience and manage thousands of medical emergencies each year, including over 17,000 in-flight situations last year.

Spirit Airlines confirmed the agreement will enable it to ensure safe, comfortable passenger travel, with an added layer of protection should a medical emergency occur during a flight.
