The ship will become an official unit of the U.S. Navy following the commissioning ceremonies on Nov. 7.

"New Yorkers and Americans across the country have banded together to support the USS New York Commissioning Committee and to support the sailors and Marines of this fine ship," said Rear Admiral (Ret.) Robert Ravitz, Co-Chairman and Executive Director of the Committee. "This commissioning will have special meaning to many Americans, and we thank Global Aviation Holdings for their generous support. When the USS New York departs New York Harbor, her crew will carry the spirit of New York with them."
