Global Aviation Holdings Sponsors Commissioning of USS New York

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga., Oct. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Global Aviation Holdings, Inc., parent company of World Airways and North American Airlines, has been named a Commodore sponsor of the Commissioning Committee for the upcoming commissioning of the USS New York. The Commissioning Committee is a non-profit group formally designated to fund and organize events surrounding the commissioning of the U.S. Navy's newest ship in New York City on Nov. 7, 2009.

"North American Airlines will transport approximately 200 family members of the USS New York crew from Norfolk, Va., to New York City for the commissioning events," said Rob Binns, CEO of Global Aviation Holdings. The USS New York is a state-of-the-art stealth ship designed to deploy U.S. Marines wherever and whenever needed. The ship, named for the people of the State of New York as a tribute to those who perished on Sept. 11, 2001, features seven and a half tons of steel from the fallen World Trade Center forged into her bow. The ship will become an official unit of the U.S. Navy following the commissioning ceremonies on Nov. 7.
