Great Plains Air Expo showcases aircraft

May 12--New general aviation aircraft from major U.S. manufacturers will be featured at the Great Plains Air Expo from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday at Jones Riverside Airport at Jenks, officials said. The Air Expo will be held at Christiansen Aviation, 200 Lear Lane.

Organized in 2009 by a consortium of Midwest aircraft dealers, the Air Expo is designed to provide aviation enthusiasts with the opportunity to see a variety of new aircraft in one place and permit those who are considering purchasing an aircraft the ability to make side-by-side comparisons, event organizers said.

Aircraft on display at the expo will include planes manufactured by Cessna, Cirrus, Piper, Pilatus, Husky, Diamond, TBM and Hawker Beechcraft.

"The aviation community has been hit hard by the economy, and this was a way for the dealers to pool resources and provide pilots and businesses with a local option to view new aircraft," said Kimberly Patrick, marketing director for KCAC, the Midwest dealer of Pilatus, Piper and Diamond aircraft. "The dealers had all been trying to set up individual shows but found that a large show such as the Great Plains Air Expo was able to generate more interest and give aviation enthusiasts an opportunity to see the major aircraft manufacturers without going to a large show out of state."

In addition to the aircraft and dealers, aviation suppliers such as Wings Insurance, NAFCO Finance and Aviation Tax Consultants will be available at the event to answer questions about aircraft issues, officials said.
