May 13--Cessna chairman and CEO Jack Pelton has been named a member of the Future of Aviation Advisory Committee.
U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood announced the members on Wednesday.
The first meeting will be held May 25 in Washington.
The committee was established in March to provide information, advice and recommendations on making sure the U.S. aviation industry remains competitive.
Members will also provide input on the industry's capability to address the evolving transportation needs, challenges and opportunities of the U.S. and global economy, LaHood said in a statement.
The committee will focus on five issues: ensuring aviation safety, a world-class work force, balancing the industry's competitiveness and viability, securing stable funding for aviation systems and addressing environmental challenges and solutions.
The committee grew out of a forum in November hosted by LaHood on the future of the aviation industry.
The committee will meet at least four times before presenting recommendations to LaHood.
