GREEN, Ohio, June 22 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- More flights to cool destinations provided a big boost in passenger traffic at Akron-Canton Airport (CAK) in May. More than 135,100 passengers traveled to and from CAK that month, making it the airport's busiest May of all time. That figure is up 11 percent compared to 2009 and beats the airport's previous best May by 9,718 passengers, which was in 2006. For the first five months of the year, 609,469 passengers traveled to/from CAK, an 8 percent increase compared to 2009.

"The additional flights, bigger jets and new destinations certainly helped our momentum, but in the end it is our deep commitment to award-winning customer service that helped us set our third monthly record in 2010."
Every carrier at CAK experienced an increase during May. AirTran Airways, which added extra flights to New York and Orlando carried 59,356 total passengers for the month, a 7 percent increase compared to May 2009. Plus, new flights AirTran Airways offers in partnership with SkyWest Airlines to Milwaukee added another 4,400 passengers. Delta, which added a flight each to Atlanta and Detroit, enjoyed a 13 percent increase compared to March 2009. Finally, US Airways, United Express and Frontier Airlines were up 7 percent, 2 percent and 0.5 percent respectively.
