FRANKFURT, September 22, 2010 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Turkish Airlines (TK) has provided service at Frankfurt Airport (FRA) for 50 years and is thus one of FRA's longest-serving carriers. Today, September 22, the airline celebrated its anniversary on the main apron with an aircraft specially "branded" for this occasion. Turkish Airlines executive board members Hamdi Topcu and Dr. Temel Kotil, more than ten of the company's directors for Germany and marketing managers, as well as over 20 Turkish journalists, attended the celebration.

"50 years is a period that spans half the era of scheduled services in commercial air transport. Fraport congratulates one of the longest-serving airlines at Frankfurt Airport on this remarkable anniversary. We wish Turkish Airlines continued success in global aviation. May the connection between Turkey and Germany via the Frankfurt air transportation hub continue to prosper in the future," said Fraport AG executive board chairman Dr. Stefan Schulte, paying tribute to Turkish Airlines on its anniversary.

Turkish Airlines provides services between the FRA intercontinental hub in Germany and Turkey's international hub Istanbul Ataturk Airport. In addition, it offers daily flights to and from the Turkish capital of Ankara. During the peak tourist season its flight schedule includes additional direct flights to Adana and Izmir twice a week and to Kayseri once a week. Turkish Airlines operates jet aircraft of the

Airbus A320 family as well as Boeing 737s on all routes.

A member of the Star Alliance, Turkish Airlines has seen rapid growth in the past few years. In 2004 it carried 10 million passengers; today, the number has more than doubled to over 25 million passengers per year.

When Turkish Airlines inaugurated air service to Frankfurt in 1960, FRA recorded 2.2 million passengers annually or nearly 6,000 daily. Today, FRA serves more than 50 million passengers per year or well over 140,000 passengers per day.
