Feb. 09--The Greeley-Weld County airport will receive more than $1 million in local and federal funds in a distribution of grant money approved by Gov. John Hickenlooper on Wednesday.

The Greeley airport will be one of 46 Colorado airports to receive the funds, which were generated through state aviation fuel taxes.

Amanda Longstreth, office manager for the Greeley airport, said all of the money will be used for a new equipment storage facility and to repave the roads in the west hangars, or aircraft shelters,

She said that while the airport cannot create a timeline for its improvement projects until the funds become available, projects should be in full swing by this summer.

"These are items we have needed for a long time," Longstreth said. She said it will have a positive effect on the airport's traffic.

The approved Colorado airport grants total more than $94 million. They are distributed by the Aviation Discretionary Grant program in the Colorado Department of Transportation's Division of Aeronautics.
